So I realized Im leaving everyone in the dark…
Dear diary, HELLLLLLLO!!!!!!!! I am currently floating down the Amazon River and learning about a tribe in Anthro class that could literally be in an earshot. I dont have many internet minutes so I am going to keep this brief (and hopefully coherent) but I will most certainly update it after every port! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT ISSSSSS MMMMYYYYYY LLIIIIIIIFFFFFFFEEEEE. Im so sorry I havent posted anything. My only contact with the real world is eejones@semesteratsea.net. Use it. No but really. We just ported in Roseau, Dominica and oh my goodness this place is full of the green lusciousness that has been lacking on my blue blue wide open ocean view for days. The Bahamas was great but imma just keep this short and tell you what I did in Dominica, an island in the Caribbean. Today we ported in our first real port, Dominica (Dom-e-knee-ka). We got kicked out of a canyoning tour before the day even started but it turned out to be the best day ever! Our taxi driver took us around Roseau. We visited the Trafalgar Falls and swam under them. Relaxed in a hot spring. He showed us cinnamon and bananas and coffee beans! We drank a Kubuli(local beer brewed in Dominica) with some locals at a bar called Shop n Go. We snorkeled in Champagne Reef (lots of bubbles!) GOOGLE THESE PLACES. WE saw a mini boiling lake, near an active volcano. I held a Boa Constricter? Saw the bird of the country the sessarian parrot at the botanical gardens. After our adventurous day we wanted to eat some local food so we told our taxi driver to take us to his favorite restaurant. He got to literally pick our favorite fish out of a bucket and they grilled it for us an served it with fried plantains. (dont worry I am taking a food and culture class so all this will be documented in great detail). we tried some local rum and went out with our taxi driver to a place called JR’s and the Krazy Koconut where many shipmates were out too! The next day we finally got our canyoning on and repelled down an 80 ft waterfall with just a harness attached to a tree. It was incredible. We then ate lunch with a local family who owned a chocolate farm and ate too much cinnamon chocolate. (many photos to come) People can drink and drive in Dominica and apparently do it a lot. Cars on the island cost twice as much in the US. hmmmmmm There is an active volcano on the island. Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed on the island! They have the first woman prime minister in the Caribbeans history! Everything is beautiful here, including the people and I think I’m going to move to Roseau permanently… We were the first Semester at Sea to travel to this location so hopefully we didn’t scare them. I gotta get my work done before we arrive in Manaus Brazil! I love you all. I will catch you soon. The only things I dont like: -missing you people -the fact that they make our beds and take our plates away

Pre-Departure
I leave for the Bahamas January 8th, 2011. I’m not sure what I have done to deserve this journey AROUND THE WORLD but I am enjoying the excitement build.
I feel like its the moment at a concert after the lights go out just before the band comes on stage.
I will be updating this here tumblr as often as I can!
My whole life is about to change. Come away with me.
